SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Savannah Ghost Pirates, proud ECHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers, announced today that they have acquired defenseman Drake Burgin and the ECHL playing rights to forward Colby MacArthur from the Kansas City Mavericks in exchange for the ECHL playing rights to defenseman Phip Waugh.
Burgin, 25, joins the Ghost Pirates after spending the past two seasons with Kansas City. He appeared in 63 games last season, recording two goals and 24 assists, and finished second among the Mavericks' defensemen in scoring as Kansas City advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native played 127 collegiate games at St. Lawrence University prior to turning professional, totaling 13 goals and 23 assists. Burgin served as team captain during his senior season.
MacArthur, 24, made his professional debut late last season with Kansas City, appearing in 13 games and recording two goals and two assists. The Summerside, Prince Edward Island, native played 111 collegiate games at Union College before turning professional.
MacArthur is currently under contract with the Coventry Blaze of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), with the Ghost Pirates retaining his ECHL playing rights.
Waugh, 26, appeared in 22 games with Savannah last season, recording three goals and six assists. The McLean, Virginia, native also appeared in 15 American Hockey League games with the Abbotsford Canucks, Hershey Bears and Hartford Wolf Pack.
Waugh has appeared in 86 career professional games, recording six goals and 17 assists.
