Ghost Pirates Bolster Blue Line with the Addition of Clayton Phillips

SAVANNAH, GA – The Savannah Ghost Pirates, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Clayton Phillips for the 2022-2023 season.

Phillips, 22, joins the Ghost Pirates after recording 12 points (5g, 7a) during his senior campaign at Penn State University last season. After concluding his collegiate career this past spring, Phillips made his professional debut with the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, appearing in one game.

The 6-0, 183-pound defenseman totaled 38 points (11g, 27a) during his collegiate career split between Penn State and the University of Minnesota.

“Clayton is a first-year player who will add pace and positional flexibility to our defensive corps,” said Ghost Pirates Head Coach Rick Bennett.

Phillips is a resident of Edina, Minnesota, and was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Phillips joins fellow defenseman Tristan Thompson, forward Spencer Dorowicz and goaltender Darion Hanson as players who have agreed to terms with the Ghost Pirates for the 2022-2023 season.
